Basil Gladstone Dunstan (pictured at the manager’s residence on the right of the photo below) was a keen photographer and collector of memorabilia. As a result we are very fortunate that his descendants have allowed us to digitise and publish the part of his collection relating to Yerranderie.

By 1916, activities at the Yerranderie mines were being wound back to caretaker mode…. largely due to a lack of labour with so many miners signing up to fight in World War One. Basil’s skills and experience as a geologist and chemist were also needed by the war effort so he packed his trunk and headed to England…..
